Recently, LIUGONG was awarded the title of “Advanced Collective for China’s Polar Expedition” by China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and Ministry of Natural Resources. The recognition highlights LIUGONG’s 17 years of dedicated support in providing equipment, technical services, and engineering solutions for China’s polar scientific research missions.
Addressing the long-standing reliance on imported polar equipment, LIUGONG has actively promoted the localization of polar engineering machinery and strengthened China’s polar research capabilities. To date, the company has delivered 41 units of construction equipment across eight categories to Antarctica. Designed and upgraded for extreme polar conditions, LIUGONG machines have supported key infrastructure tasks such as material transportation, site leveling, crushing, and drilling, while ensuring reliable performance for major projects including the Qinling Station, achieving zero-failure operations.
In 2018, the first and only Polar Engineering Machinery Laboratory in China’s construction machinery industry was established at the LIUGONG Global R&D Center. In 2022, LIUGONG further partnered with the Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration to launch a Polar Engineering Technology Innovation Center, advancing research, technology development, and demonstration applications for polar operations. The company has also released several industry standards, including the “Cold Start Test Method for Loaded Construction Machinery under Polar Conditions.”
Since sending its first technician to polar missions in 2008, LIUGONG has built a specialized training and selection system for polar engineers, dispatching 43 technical experts across 17 expeditions to support scientific research in both the Arctic and Antarctic.
Looking ahead, LIUGONG will continue to enhance polar research equipment and services, contributing innovative and reliable machinery solutions to support the next stage of China’s polar exploration.
